SAFEGUARDING

Summary of Safeguarding Policy for Live Free Foundation

Fully policy available on request.

The Live Free Foundation is committed to the safeguarding and protection of all vulnerable adults. The Live Free Foundation recognises that none of us is invulnerable but that there is a particular care for those whose vulnerability is increased by situations, by disabilities or by reduction in capacities. It is recognised that this increased vulnerability may be temporary or permanent and may be visible or invisible, but that it does not diminish our humanity and seeks to affirm the gifts and graces of all God’s people.

This policy addresses the safeguarding of vulnerable adults and the appropriate reporting of historic or current abuse. It is intended to be a dynamic policy. It is particularly aimed at the support of those that disclose that they have been the victims of historic or current abuse and the reporting of that abuse where appropriate to the relevant authorities.

The Live Free Foundation recognises the serious issue of the abuse of vulnerable adults and recognises that this may take the form of physical, emotional, sexual, financial, spiritual or institutional abuse or neglect. It acknowledges the effects these may have on people and their development including spiritual and religious development.

The Live Free Foundation commits itself to respond without delay to any allegation or cause for concern that a vulnerable adult may have been harmed. It commits itself to challenge the abuse of power of anyone in a position of trust.

The Live Free Foundation commits itself to ensuring the implementation of government legislation and guidance and safe practice.

The Live Free Foundation commits itself to the provision of support, advice and training for employees and volunteers that will ensure people are clear and confident about their roles and responsibilities in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of adults who may be vulnerable.

The Live Free Foundation appoints Susan Partridge as its designated safeguarding officer to:

  1. support and advise Trustees in fulfilling their roles

  2. provide a point of reference to advise on safeguarding issues

  3. promote safeguarding best practice within The Live Free Foundation

Purpose

The purposes of this safeguarding policy are to ensure procedures are in place and people are clear about duties regarding vulnerable adults or the reporting of abuse either current or historic of vulnerable adults.

Good Practice

We believe good practice means that:

  1. All people are treated with respect and dignity

  2. Team, while acting on behalf of the Live Free Foundation, should not meet or work with vulnerable adults

  3. If adults appearing to be non-vulnerable initially, subsequently appear to be vulnerable, a written record of this will be made and kept, noting date, time and the nature of the assessment

  4. Promotion of safeguarding is recognised to include undertaking those tasks which enable all God’s people to reach their full potential. The Trustees will actively consider the extent to which it is succeeding in this area

Training of staff and volunteers

All staff and volunteers will be expected to undergo basic safeguarding training

Trustees

Trustees will be expected to undergo basic safeguarding training upon appointment

Complaints procedure

Complaints may be made to a person who will be appointed by the Trustees and who is currently Susan Partridge. If a complaint is made to another person, it should be passed to Susan Partridge who will arrange to meet with the complainant and attempt to resolve the complaint.

Review

This policy will be reviewed annually by the Trustees.
